Choosing an Influencer that suits your brand

In the social media world, there are several individuals who already have steady traffic to their every post. They have a network of a trusted audience who look forward to every post and this post gets flooded with likes ranging into thousands for some into millions, several comments and shares. These sets of “special individuals” are known as “influencers or online influencers”

Having known this, so how then can you identify a social media influencer who you can network for the growth of your brand? Here are five ways to identify social media influencers;

  1. Engagement Level

One of the major ways to identify a brand influencer is the level of engagement on each of their posts. Having millions of followers and just a few comments/tweets/likes on their posts is not impressive. We advise that, as a brand who wants to connect to a brand influencer their level of engagement is an indication of how many followers are truly interested in an influencer’s content.

Unknown to many brands is the fact that some of the supposed influencers with million followers paid for those followers, meaning many of those figures are robotic and they would, therefore, have little engagement compared to their high followership

2. The Right Personality

An influencer could be a celebrity, blogger or a politician. When it comes to choosing the influencer to connect with, it is important you consider the public opinion about that individual based on the comments on their posts some are controversial and as a brand of everything you’d want is to have the wrong individual representing your brand. Therefore care should be taken on who you connect with irrespective of their engagement level.

3. Niche

This can also imply relevance, the very first thing you need to keep in mind is how relevant is the influencer to your product and services?. What is it that they’re an expert in? Are they into beauty, fitness, travel, photography, technology, food, or maybe a combination of some of these? A look at their social media accounts will give you a good idea about their niche. Sometimes, however, it may not be easy to understand the primary niche of an influencer just from their social media accounts.

For example; If you’re into real estate, you certainly don’t want to collaborate with a food blogger right? A lifestyle influencer who’s into interiors or home decor would be a much better fit.

So, knowing what your brand involves boils down to the influencer you connect to.

The Bottom-line is that identifying the right social media influencers is anything but easy. It is the most important aspect of the campaign and can make it or break it. Collaborating with the wrong ones will simply eat away your budget and give you nothing in return. So you need to be very cautious when you’re selecting influencers for your campaign.
